Ignoring the re-surge of COVID-19 cases across the southern states, White House is attempting to defame one of America's most respected public servants, Dr Anthony Fauci of National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, reports CNN.
According to a White House official, several top aides to Trump are concerned about Dr Fauci being “wrong on things" citing his past comments on the threat from the virus and the use of masks.
President himself, hasn't met Fauci for weeks, was annoyed with the top infectious disease specialist's public statements and "good press."
Over the course of the outbreak, Fauci has contradicted Trump's false claims multiple times such as the United States leading the world in the coronavirus fight. He also refuted the President's statement that 99 percent of Covid-19 cases are harmless.
Fauci opined last week that some states had opened too early.
White House deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley said in a statement Monday that President Trump will not be firing director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Dr Anthony Fauci and accused the media of trying to maliciously push a ‘falsehood’, reports Fox News.
“The President’s tweet clearly exposed media attempts to maliciously push a falsehood about his China decision in an attempt to rewrite history...it was Democrats and the media who ignored Coronavirus choosing to focus on impeachment instead, and when they finally did comment on the virus it was to attack President Trump for taking the bold decisive action to save American lives by cutting off travel from China and from Europe. Dr. Fauci has been and remains a trusted advisor to President Trump," he said.
US President Donald Trump shared a tweet of DeAnna Lorraine, a former Republican congressional candidate that said, "Fauci was telling people on February 29th that there was nothing to worry about and it posed no threat to the US public at large. Time to #FireFauci..."
Choosing not to address the reason behind Dr Fauci’s changed predictions about the pandemic, Fox News only focused on the ‘kindness’ of President Trump who is unlikely to fire Fauci. Their reportage only highlight White House’s stance and Trump’s tweets condemning Fauci.
CNN’s in-depth style of reporting focused Trump’s actual grudge against Fauci. As Fauci kept changing his stance based on science and corrected the President’s baseless claims, his name eventually also have been struck off from Trump’s good book as it seems.
